PK-4 School Counselor
I have been working in public education for over twenty years. My background includes teaching students in grades PK-3, instructional coaching in PK/K, school counselor to students in PK-8, as well as coaching and officiating field hockey. I travel to VCS everyday from Skowhegan where I live with my family. My role at VCS is to provide classroom guidance lessons (LCRC) to students in grades PK-4, short term individual counseling, small group counseling, and provide consultation to teachers, parents, and administrators. In my small group and classroom lessons I am passionate about integrating the arts, physical wellbeing, mindfulness, and literacy. Students often refer to me as the “feelings teacher.”
Dr. Jamie Routhier, 5-8 School Counselor:
I am a 19-year veteran teacher who has taught 1st grade,
7th grade, and 8th grade social studies. I live in Winslow
with my family and two dogs! I love working with the
students and community of Vassalboro. I focus on grades
5-8, supporting individual students, small groups, and
teaching classroom lessons in the LCRC course. My
hobbies include gardening, photography, and time
outside. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need
anything. We are here to support you and your child
throughout their education journey at VCS.
Megan Simmons MSW, LMSW-CC
I’m beginning my second year here at VCS and feel honored to support our students and families each day. I’ve been a social worker for over 13 years and currently work with students who have IEPs, providing social-emotional support and helping them navigate challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Before joining VCS, I spent seven years working with the Department of Health and Human Services, helping families access critical resources and support. I’m also a proud disabled U.S. Air Force veteran, where my social work career began.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of New England, with a background in trauma-informed care, crisis management, and community resource coordination. I’m passionate about creating safe, inclusive spaces where every student feels heard and supported.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our twin girls, two dogs, and a cat. Our home is full—and full of love!
What is School Counseling?
School counseling is a service that is available to each and every student in our school. Counselors assist students with any personal or academic concerns they have which affect the student’s ability to focus on their schoolwork. We also serve as liaisons between students, teachers, parents, and community resources.
